Wicklow youngsters show great promise

-

WICKLOW RFC’s minis travelled far and wide last Sunday morning for a range of friendlies and blitzes. The club’s U-8s, U-9s, U-11s and U-12s were in action throughout the south-east.

Wicklow’s U-8s made the short trip north to play Seapoint RFC in a friendly.

This was the first meeting between the two clubs for the 2010 age grade and both sides fielded two teams with four matches played.

The U-9s made the trip to Leixlip to take on a gathering of Leinster’s finest U-9s in a multi-team blitz in Barnhall RFC.

The Wicklow players took on teams from Blackrock, Wanderers, Mullingar and Barnhall. The lads and lasses put on a sterling display against excellent opposition.

The U-11s took on an eager Old Wesley outfit in the first meeting between these two sides and had the pleasure of playing on the 4G surface at Donnybrook.

A great competition ensued between two welldrilled teams.

Wicklow’s U-12 boys were on home turf on Sunday morning when they entertained their counterparts from Enniscorthy RFC in Ashtown Lane. Again, conditions were perfect for rugby and both sides put on some sparkling displays.

Wicklow’s 2009 and 2010 age grades are looking to expand and would love to hear from boys and girls born in those years interested in rugby. See www.wicklowrfc.com or www.facebook.com/ Wicklow RFC for details.
