Tigers tamed by Donncha’s Warriors

DONNCHA O’CALLAGHAN has played his part in halting Leicester Tigers’ roll as his Worcester Warriors earned a first ever win at Welford Road and inflicted a first loss in seven games on Munster’s next European opponents.

The defeat sees Tigers slip down to fourth place in the standings ahead of tomorrow’s away trip to face Wasps at the Ricoh Arena.

Three tries from Mike Fitzgerald, Sam Harrison and Gareth Owen were not sufficient as Warriors build on their half-time lead to take the win.

Meanwhile in the Top 14, Racing 92 recorded the result of the season thus far by holding league leaders Montpellier scoreless in their 26-0 win.

Albert Vulivuli, Brice Dulin and Juan Imhoff all crossed for tries against a team that featured Aaron Cruden, Francois Steyn and Jessie Mogg.

Racing are still in fourth, but have closed the gap to Montpellier to four points ahead of Sunday’s mouthwatering derby against Stade Francais.

And elsewhere in the French league, Castres picked up a 20-19 victory over Toulon. Benjamin Urdapilleta converted a penalty try 15 minutes from time to push his side over the line after Malakai Fekitoa’s try and conversion for Toulon eight minutes earlier.

An away date with Toulouse is another challenge for the in-form side, who currently sit just inside the play-off spots, and will travel to Thomond Park at the end of January.
