Munster derby in Dooradoyle

GARRYOWEN are second in Division 1A ahead of their massive Munster derby against Cork Con at Dooradoyle tomorrow.

The Limerick outfit claimed a brilliant 37-28 victory over Trinity last weekend to move ahead of their Cork rivals in the standings.

Garryowen were 20-7 ahead at the interval, and Liam Coombes scored a hat-trick while David Johnston and James McInerney also dotted down in Dublin.

But Garryowen are still 10 points behind leaders Lansdowne while Cork Con are also on 25 points. They defeated a lowly St Mary’s College 21-19, but missed out on a crucial bonus point.

Elsewhere in Division 1A, Young Munster are struggling in seventh ahead of their Round 9 clash with Terenure College at Lakelands Park. Young Munster lost 23-22 at home to Clontarf last time out.

Shannon have been in scintillating form in Division 1B this season, and the league leaders registered a seventh win in eight games when they defeated Ballymena 27-15 at Thomond Park last Saturday.

UCC fell to fifth ahead of their Munster derby with UL Bohemians on 4G Pitch at the University of Limerick tomorrow.

UL Bohs are eighth after beating rivals Dolphin last weekend – Dolphin are rock bottom with a tough trip to come, against Banbridge tomorrow.

In Division 2A, Highfield can go top as they head to Galwegians this weekend. Nenagh Ormond are away to Blackrock College, while Cashel host City of Armagh.

In 2B, leaders Old Crescent are at home to Navan RFC. And in the bottom tier, Thomond can go top if they beat Bective Rangers and Sligo don’t win. Bruff and Midleton clash at Kilballyowen Park.
