All-inclusive team hitting their straps in Navan

-

IN October Navan RFC started on a journey with their newest team, Navan All-Inclusive Team.

The aim is to provide children with learning and physical disabilities with an opportunity to learn and play rugby in a safe, enjoyable and exciting environment, and to build social skills and boost confidence.

Four weeks into their journey 10 children have registered with the Navan All-Inclusive Team.

The hope is to build on the children’s team that currently exists as part of the programme and to establish an adult team at the club.

Currently Navan RFC are the only club in the north-east area that offers children with special needs and intellectual disabilities a chance to be part of a team.

There are 13 other clubs around Leinster that also field all-inclusive teams.

The feedback from parents so far has been incredible and really encouraging.

There is always plenty of help on hand with seven volunteers giving up their time on Sunday mornings to help coach the kids.

The all-inclusive team have gone from strength to strength, advancing from just catching and passing to playing mini games.

The hopes are that in the new year Navan will be able to enter their first competition and compete against other all-inclusive teams.
