Tigers lose ahead of Thomond test

- Declan Rooney

TOMORROW evening Munster will do battle with Leicester Tigers in the first two games between the sides inside a week, but entering Thomond Park on the back on consecutive Premiership defeats is not the form that Tigers wanted.

Last season they failed to score at all in Limerick as Munster claimed an impressive win, but scoring wasn’t an issue last weekend at the Ricoh Arena as Wasps claimed a 32-25 victory.

And it was only a Kearnan Myall try two minutes from time and Jimmy Gopperth’s conversion that edged the points in Wasps’s direction after Tom Youngs and Jonah Holmes (2) ran in tries for the Welford Road boys.

The other Pool 4 action tomorrow takes place just before Munster’s kick-off when Castres welcomes Racing 92 to Stade Pierre Fabre. Donnacha Ryan could be in line to make his Racing 92 European debut after his first start for his new team last weekend, but the former Munster man will hope for a more positive return that their 27-17 loss in the Paris derby to Stade Francais.

Ryan lined up beside Leone Nakarawa in a daunting looking second row, but tries from So’otala Fa’aso’o and Brice Dulin were not enough to take the win.

Elsewhere in the Top 14, Castres were very impressive road winners in Toulon as they outscored the home side six tries to four to claim their fifth win on the bounce in the division thanks to Armand Batlle’s brace.
