Brive on form for arrival of Connacht

AJ MacGINTY denied Worcester a third win in a row last weekend as his Sale Sharks claimed an

18-14 victory at Sixways to send Warriors into their Challenge Cup tie with Oyonnax on a f lat note.

The former Connacht out-half kicked the clinching conversion after Mark Jennings’s try pushed Sharks into the lead following a couple of penalties from Chris Pennell just after the hour mark.

Captained by Donncha O’Callaghan, Worcester still managed to stretch the gap to last-placed London Irish by virtue of the losing bonus point they earned at the weekend.

5 action, and the French side were unlucky themselves last weekend as they played their other Pool 5 rivals Brive in the Top 14.

It was Brive who claimed the honours in a 33-30 epic as seven successful kicks at goal from Gaetan Germain helped them over the line.

Oyonnax did have a fine performance from their own No 10, Ben Botica, who landed three penalties and three conversions, but the home side maintained their half-time lead and clinched the win thanks to Kakha Asieshvilli’s try 14 minutes from time.

Benito Masilevu ran in Brive’s first try after three minutes and Matthieu Ugalde bagged number two, but the concession of four tries will give Connacht hope for tomorrow’s clash at Stade Amédée-Domenech.
