Clubs seek back-to-back wins

BUCCANEERS can finally move off the bottom of the Ulster Bank League Division 1A this weekend when they clash with St Mary’s College at Dubarry Park tomorrow.

Hooker John Sutton scored the crucial try in Round 9 as Buccaneers came back from a 10-0 half-time deficit to secure a stunning 11-10 win over the same opposition at Templeville Road.

Adam Coyle and Conor Dean dotted down in the first half for the hosts, but Sutton scored after half-time, while Connacht prospect Luke Carty kicked two penalties in Buccaneers’s second victory of the season.

In Division 2A Corinthians will look to overturn last weekend’s defeat away to Malone, when they host the northerners at Corinthian Park tomorrow.

Corinthians didn’t leave empty handed in a 22-20 defeat at Gibson Park against the league leaders on Saturday. But Corinthians are seventh now and need a win to keep up the pressure on the teams above them.

And while their city rivals are looking to climb the standings, Galwegians are bottom of Division 2A after nine rounds of action.

Galwegians travel to Woodleigh Park on Saturday when they clash with Highfield, one week on from a massive 40-18 hammering by the Munster outfit at home in Crowley Park. Galwegians are level with Greystones, but their dreadful points difference means they sit bottom.

Galwegians could be playing their Connacht rivals Sligo in Division 2B next season, after Sligo moved five points clear at the top of 2C last time out.

Sligo beat Bangor 9-7 at Hamilton Park in Round 9 and they will look to double up on that result with a win against Bangor at Upritchard Park on Saturday.
