‘Facebook’s news days numbered’
FACEBOOK’S dominance in delivering news could come to an end soon, according to former RTÉ and Twitter boss Mark Little.
Speaking on ‘The Big Tech Show With Adrian Weckler’, INM’s new weekly technology podcast, Mr Little predicted “the end of the social network as a source of news”.
Mr Little said that his Neva Labs startup, co-founded with former journalist and Facebook executive Aine Kerr, aims to take advantage of a growing disenchantment with bland, irrelevant news from social media channels.
“Don’t ever assume that they [social networks] are giving you news that’s based on quality,” he said. The Dublin-based firm is currently hiring data scientists to help it build a personalised news consumption system using artificial intelligence. In an in-depth interview, Mr Little also predicted opportunity for existing media companies in Ireland and abroad.
The entire interview can be heard on ‘The Big Tech Show With Adrian Weckler’, available on iTunes, SoundCloud or independent.ie/podcasts. With a new episode posted every Saturday, the programme will broadcast exclusive interviews with major figures in Irish and international technology circles. It will also highlight the best of Irish startups and review the most interesting new technology products and services available.
