Flynn’s company in search for GAA boss

- Martin Breheny

A COMPANY, whose commercial director is Dublin footballer Paul Flynn, will process applications for the position of GAA directorgeneral.

Dublin-based Lincoln Recruitment Specialists are handling the search for the best candidate to fill one of the highest-profile roles in Irish life, which has arisen following Páraic Duffy’s announcement that he will be retiring next March.

Lincoln will present a shortlist to the GAA’s top brass, led by current president Aogán Ó Fearghaíl and president-elect John Horan, who will take over in late February.

The main requirements included in the advertisement, which is running this weekend, centre on developing “the vision and strategies of the association and implementing long and short-term plans”.

It also mentions seven other key areas of activity which come under the director-general’s remit.

The are 12 requirements under ‘The Person’ heading, one of which is written in Irish.

However, f luent Irish is not a requirement although, according to the wording, it would be an advantage.

‘Ba mhaith an rud go mbeadh Gaeilge agiarrthóirí,” it states.

Effectively, that makes Irish a helpful plus but not an absolute necessity. The last four directorgenerals were teachers and Irish speakers.

Interestingly, there are two references to business and commercial acumen.

“Strong experience of financial management and commercial acumen,” is listed as the fourth requirement while the final one states that applicants must have “third-level, business-related qualification (min Level 8NFQ)”.

Applicants are invited to submit their CVs to Shay Dalton, managing director of Lincoln Recruitment Specialists by January 10.
