Thief is caught on CCTV dancing while breaking into home

- Allison Bray

A CALLOUS burglar casually performed a dance routine while his accomplices broke into a family home.

CCTV footage of a burglary at a home in Newbridge, Co Kildare, last month showed a trio of young men breaking into the back door of a house in the College Orchard housing estate about 8.50pm.

The incident was broadcast on RTÉ’s ‘CrimeCall’ on Monday night.

But what viewers didn’t expect to see was one of the culprits practising his dance moves before carrying on with the crime.

The burglar is seen strutting his stuff in the style of Michael’s Jackson’s famous moonwalk dance which he first performed to his hit song ‘Billie Jean’ in 1983.

The episode sparked astonishment from viewers, many of whom went online to express outrage the man was so casual in his approach to a burglary.

At one point he stares directly at the CCTV camera, after producing a screwdriver for his accomplices to use in attempting to break into the house.

Presenter Keelin Shanley said: “They’d be nervous breaking into a house you’d imagine? But somebody might recognise that – that might be his party piece, if you like?” Gardaí are appealing for anyone who can help identify the culprits.

One of the suspects is described as being between 5ft 8in and 5ft 9in with a heavy build and large stomach. He spoke with what gardaí described as a “local country accent”.

He was armed with a screwdriver and wearing a black jacket and runners.

The second suspect was the same height with a slim build, brown eyes, and strong Dublin accent. He was wearing a baseball cap, black jumper and tracksuit bottoms.

The third suspect was 5ft 10in with a stocky build and strong Dublin accent, wearing a wool hat, grey scarf, black jacket, gloves, tracksuit bottoms and runners.
