Taking a progressive career path
KPMG is offering a number of opportunities for people from many different backgrounds
“Christmas and the New Year is a popular time to reflect and recharge the batteries and is often a good occasion to take stock of career options,” says Janis Heather, Recruitment Manager, KPMG in Ireland. “It is sound advice to put our skills and talents to best effect in a way that delivers job satisfaction and strong, progressive career paths, developed through our quarterly promotion cycles.”
For those thinking about a career change, KPMG offers great opportunities for experienced professionals, and there are a wealth of roles available in a range of disciplines not limited to qualified accountants alone.
“We have been experiencing significant growth and have been recruiting at an average rate of several hundred positions annually, a trend which we expect to continue,” says Heather. “While many roles are in the graduate recruitment area and a career in accountancy, the depth and scope of our services means that a career at KPMG has huge appeal for specialists in other disciplines.”
Alongside the type of roles you would expect from Ireland’s leading accountancy and tax practice, KPMG are also looking for deal advisory specialists, and management and risk consultants. For example, M&A activity remained strong in 2017, and the pipeline looks good for the year ahead.
“In Deal Advisory alone, we are keen to talk to professionals with mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate finance and transactions experience, so that we can continue to provide clients who are involved in transactions with the best possible advice on taking their ambitions forward.
“In our Management Consulting practice, we need Project Managers for our technology and transformation teams, with an emphasis on experience in financial services, utilities and the public sector. In common with the rest of KPMG, our service is about giving the best advice to clients and equipping them with the expertise they need to either take their business to the next level, or to deal with issues and crises as they arise.”
ACHIEVING OBJECTIVES
Many of Ireland’s business sectors are in strong growth mode, notwithstanding the potential headwind caused by Brexit, and it is important that they have access to expert advice so that they can build on the current momentum.
“Our role with clients is to bring the deep skills and expertise and pragmatic, relevant and insightful advice that will help them achieve their business objectives,” continues Heather.
“Meanwhile, our highly successful Risk Consulting practice comprises a multi-disciplined team of accountants, project managers, IT advisors, risk management, compliance and internal audit professionals. As a result, we are always keen to hear from candidates with a background in risk and internal audit, financial services regulatory, financial modelling, and IT audit and cyber security.”
As business and regulation becomes more sophisticated and complex, the need for these skills will increase accordingly.
“The technology sector is probably the one that springs to mind when we discuss issues like IT audit and cyber security. However, these issues impact on clients across the board, as the majority are dependent on increasing levels of sophisticated technology - regardless of sector.”
The speed and nature of technological advancement is such that increased focus on compliance and risk management is inevitable. The issues of regulation and good governance, combined with ensuring efficient operating systems, are major priorities for clients, and KPMG have seen the demand for services increase rapidly in this area.
“At KPMG, we have significant in-house expertise in the areas of marketing and HR, promoting and supporting our business,” says Paul Vance, Head of Resourcing, KPMG in Ireland. “Meanwhile, in common with other progressive workplaces, we place increasing importance on diversity and on the retention of talented people.
“We are proud to have an Inclusion and Diversity Programme as a key strategic focus for our business. Promoting the benefits of an inclusive workplace is a priority and helping all of our people reach their full potential is an essential part of the HR support process for each member of the team.”
DIVERSE PERSPECTIVES
KPMG’s Inclusion and Diversity programme promotes inclusion for all the staff by offering a range of opportunities, a fulfilling career, a rewarding work environment with a responsible employer, and the flexibility to balance the demands of family and other commitments.
“Diversity for us is not just gender, ethnic, and cultural diversity, but also diversity of work experience,” continues Vance. “We are as keen to welcome people from outside our organisation, who will bring a different perspective to bear, as we are to nurture and develop graduate talent. Given the global nature of our business, we also welcome candidates with experience both in Ireland and internationally, and in particular the returning emigrants who have been working abroad and are considering a move home to Ireland.”
As well as IT consultants, project managers, deal advisors and marketers, KPMG also want all of the professionals generally associated with the firm; accountancy, tax, audit and compliance professionals.
“Careers at KPMG can take our people around the world and they have the opportunity to work with exceptional clients. Regardless of their career discipline, they will be well placed to become experts of the highest standard regardless of their chosen profession.”
