Garda probe after body of man found in city centre public toilet

GARDAÍ are investigating the discovery of a body in a public toilet in Cork’s city centre.

The body, that of a 42-yearold married man from Carrigaline, Co Cork, was found in the facility on the Grand Parade shortly after 1am yesterday during routine cleaning.

Emergency services were notified and the individual was pronounced dead on arrival at Cork’s Mercy University Hospital (MUH). Gardaí immediately sealed off the scene around the facility to allow for a full forensic examination by technical bureau officers. The State Pathologist Office was also notified.

A post-mortem examination was scheduled last night at Cork University Hospital (CUH) by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster.

Gardaí stressed that the nature of their investigation would be determined by the results of the post mortem.

Officers are now checking footage from a number of CCTV security cameras in the area to determine the movements of the deceased. There was no obvious indication of how the individual died and there were no immediate signs of violence at the scene.

One garda source said there was no apparent evidence of foul play being involved.

It is understood the man was out socialising with friends on Thursday evening. He became separated from them and is believed to have entered the toilet as he made his way home alone.
