BREAKFAST POTS

- Katy McGuinness

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to start eating breakfast, but it’s hard to find the time, you might consider a breakfast pot.

We were surprised by how many calories and how much sugar some of these pots contained, with some so sweet that they seem more like a dessert than a breakfast product.

Rachel’s Organic Greek-style Natural Yogurt with Granola, 135g, €2.35, 8/10

Creamy, tangy yogurt and good, if not terribly exciting, granola. Expensive though. 143 calories and 6.7g of sugar per 100g.

Glenisk 0pc Fat Organic Honey Yogurt with Granola, 145g, €1.25, 7/10

Good yogurt with a pronounced flavour of honey and granola that’s not too sweet. Our testers enjoyed this Irish product. 137 calories and 15g of sugar per 100g.

M&S Greek Style Natural Yogurt with Mango & Passion Fruit Compote and Crunchy Granola, 205g, €2.20, 7/10

Good thick yogurt (despite it being reduced-fat) and compote that has a nice tang to it. The granola is too sugary though. 136 calories and 10.8g of sugar per 100g.

Everest Toasted Granola with Low Fat Natural Yogurt, Vanilla, 200g, €2, 7/10

The yogurt is sweet but not too sweet, and the granola is a little more interesting than most of the others, containing pumpkin seeds, coconut and raisins. Produced in Ireland. 138 calories and 10.4g of sugar per 100g.

Nomadic Yogurt & Oats Crunchy Clusters, 169g, €1.65, 5/10 The yogurt is thin and watery, and the oat clusters are too sweet, but the dried blackcurrants and blueberries are sharp and tangy. Comes with a handy spoon. 173 calories and 11.1g of sugar per 100g.

Danone Activia, Vanilla, 160g, €1.50, 4/10

The yogurt is very sweet and tastes synthetic. The granola is pleasant, but there isn’t enough of it. 103 calories and 10.9g of sugar per 100g.
