Players show support for busy homeless centre

-

LEINSTER Rugby players visited the Capuchin Day Centre for the homeless in Dublin city centre last week to drop off warm Canterbury of New Zealand clothing ahead of the expected cold snap in the coming weeks.

Leinster and Ireland rugby player Dan Leavy was one of those in attendance and having met the volunteers and the clients at the centre said: “Rugby Players’ Ireland have provided a number of opportunities for Leinster players over the last few months to volunteer in Dublin city centre with the homeless and this initiative by Canterbury and Leinster was another opportunity that the players were keen to get behind.

“Brother Kevin and his staff in the Capuchin Day Centre have been doing great work for years and hopefully this small gesture will help towards their endeavours.”

Br Kevin Crowley, founder and CEO of the Capuchin Day Centre, said: “Homelessness in Ireland is still at crisis point and we need to keep that front of mind. It’s a great boost to us all here today to have Leinster Rugby visit and to help us keep the issue in the public domain this winter.”

Leinster Rugby also donated a signed jersey and match tickets to help with Br Kevin’s fundraising efforts over the coming weeks.
