On-song Eagles seek road win

CONNACHT EAGLES are looking for their third win in-a-row in the B&I Cup tomorrow when they clash with Ealing Trailfinders at Vallis Way.

It’s a massive game for Mossy Lawler’s side who are right in contention, second in Pool 4, but 10points behind the leaders, their opponents on Saturday.

The Eagles had a treacherous record in the competition before they faced off against Richmond in the back-to-back fixtures before Christmas.

But the Eagles were victorious on a 38-17 scoreline away from home, and then hammered Richmond 56-7 on December 17.

However, Connacht will face off against much stiffer opponent this weekend. The Trailfinders are second in the English Championship, 15 points clear of third place in the standings.

They have won 11 of their 13 games in their domestic league while Ealing have also dominated in the B&I Cup where they have maximum points from four games.

One of those victories came against the Eagles at the Sportsground, when Ealing were irresistible in a 71-14 hammering.

Pat O’Toole and Gavin Thornbury touched down for the hosts on that occasion but Connacht could not get close to Ealing and conceded 11 tries up the other end.

The Eagles could find it tough going once again this time around but they need to continue to piling on the pressure on the other teams in the race for the best secondplaced teams.

Connacht are currently fifth in the running there, but just three points and one place behind reigning champions Munster A – they are second in Pool 1. Leinster A are clear at the top of Pool 2, while Ulster A are second in Pool 5.
