SCHOOLS RUGBY
PROP Marcus Hannon’s 55thminute try pushed Salesian College beyond Skerries to qualify for the Leinster Schools Vinnie Murray Senior Cup quarter-final courtesy of a 17-12 victory at Donnybrook yesterday, WRITES DES BERRY.
Salesian centre Sean Chan had the speed to finish from distance for out-half Evan Burke to convert for the only score of the first half.
This was eaten into when Skerries full-back Oisin McKey flashed over on the right in the 45th minute.
The game was in the balance until Hannon’s try and Burke’s extras made it a two-score game before Burke nailed a penalty to turn lock Paddy Fay-Watt’s lastminute try, converted by Eoghan McDonald, into a mere consolation.
Meanwhile, Mount Temple and the High School will have to re-plan after a late comeback from the former forced a 12-12 draw in a cracking first-round tie at Donnybrook yesterday.
The High School struck through full-back Jamie Ukagba in the seventh minute. The lead was increased by centre Matthew Barlow’s flying finish into the left corner, converted by fly-half Cormac Dempsey for 12-0 in the
20th minute.
However, Temple hit back for two tries in three minutes from captain Coleman Toner and centre Maxime Arnold, and scrum-half Eoin Quigley forced a draw in the 64th minute.
