‘Sem’ continue hat-trick bid as Kerry schools dominate

ST BRENDAN’S COLLEGE of Killarney, seeking a third successive Corn Uí Mhuirí (Munster PPS U-18.5 ‘A’ FC) title, are safely into the semi-finals of this year’s competition after a 0-17 to 0-13 win over De La Salle Macroom in Baile Bhúirne.

The ‘Sem’ were pushed hard by Macroom, who led by 0-5 to 0-3 early on with Jack Kelleher getting three points, but Brendan’s responded well to hold an 0-8 to 0-5 lead at half-time.

While the lead was reduced to a point in the opening stages of the second half, points from Niall McCarthy, Patrick D’Arcy and Ciarán O’Flynn ensured Brendan’s wouldn’t be denied.

In the last four, they will face Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne, winners of a four-in-a-row from 2012-’15 inclusive before Brendan’s recent dominance.

The Dingle side, managed by Kerry boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice, were 0-16 to 1-7 winners over IS Killorglin in Austin Stack Park in Tralee.

Cillian Ó Fáilbhe, Dylan Ó Géibheannaigh and Ruaidhrí Ó Beaglaoich were among the scores as Corca Dhuibhne led by 0-8 to 0-3 at half-time.

The lead was stretched in the second period and though Gearóid Griffin had a Killorglin goal, the Dingle school were not going to be denied.

Tralee CBS ensured that three of the four semi-finalists will be from Kerry as goals from Darragh Regan, Jason Mortimer, Fergal O’Brien and Daire Keane saw them beat St Flannan’s by 4-16 to 1-7 in Rathkeale.

Their semi opponents will be Ballincollig’s Coláiste Choilm who overcame Hamilton HS of Bandon by 2-12 to 2-8 in Brinny.

Colm O’Callaghan and Cian Rickard had the Coláiste Choilm goals, while Fionn Herlihy and Seán Barry netted for Hamilton.
