Picture perfect renovation at Stackstown Golf Club

-

PÁDRAIG Harrington won’t be posing for pictures in front of the painting of him hoisting the Claret Jug at Carnoustie if he brings Phil Mickelson back to his old stomping ground again.

The major winning pair dined at the club with their wives in July 2015, but while the painting was damaged beyond repair in a fire last year, the club will unveil its renovated bar and restaurant in time for the captains’ drivein on April 22.

“The night before the fire, we had been redecorating, and fortunately we had just taken down our pennants from above the bar, which was what went on fire,” explained incoming captain, Mick Kennedy.

“A painting of Pádraig above the fireplace was lost, but all memorabilia in the Harrington Room downstairs was 100 percent safe and untouched, which was wonderful.”

Stackstown has almost 1,000 members, and with its Get Into Golf programme a big success, the annual TileStyle Trophy event for juveniles will be expanding this year to include girls.

“It’s very invigorating and uplifting,” the captain reported “We are in the process of getting our clubhouse back up and running and putting our catering out to tender.”

The restaurant offers panoramic views of Dublin city, and parties interested in bidding for the catering contract should email admin@stackstowngolfclub.ie for details on how to apply.
