CHANGES LIKELY IN DUBLIN’S BACKROOM TEAM

CHANGES may be afoot in Dublin’s backroom team for their attempt to become the first team to win the AllIreland football five-in-a-row.

It won’t involve Jim Gavin’s coselectors and strategists Declan Darcy, Jason Sherlock and Shane O’Hanlon. But, with several other layers to the managerial structure put in place by Gavin (right), some adjustments are believed to be imminent.

Dublin trained on their recent holiday to South Africa – a trip that brought its own challenges after several of the party picked up a stomach bug.

They are now back in full training for their first Allianz League game against Kildare at Croke Park on Saturday week.

Meanwhile, Wexford hurler David Redmond has brought down the curtain on his inter-county career after ten seasons.

Redmond, who scored Wexford’s only goal when they recorded an historic championship win over Kilkenny last summer, said: “I would like to thank Oulart-The Ballagh for helping to mould me as a player. I really appreciate the support they have given and the standards that they have set for me. I look forward to finishing out my hurling career with such a proud club.” Elsewhere, last night’s postponed McKenna Cup semi-final clash between Donegal and Armagh will now take place on Saturday at 6.0. MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey was deemed unplayable following a pitch inspection yesterday morning. Tyrone will play the winners on the weekend of February 17-18.
