How much house can you buy with the maximum loan from Government?

- Loan cap is €320,000 in Dublin, Cork and Galway – €250,000 elsewhere

Huntstown Lawn, Mulhuddart

■ This semi-detached home has five bedrooms and two bathrooms and is located in the western suburbs of Dublin.

■ “This property has an abundance of space and has great potential as an investment or a beautiful family home and occupies an area of approximately 1,420 sq ft,” the auctioneer says.

■ The location has ease of access to both the M50 and N3 and the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre is also close by.

Tullaghan House, Tullaghan

■ So if you want to find a place to buy under the Government scheme in Leitrim, it doesn’t take much shopping around to discover there’s an 18th-century mansion on offer.

■ While evidently luxurious, this one still has a little bit of work to do inside, but the seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms in a late-Georgian style will soften that blow.

■ Not to mention the added sea view from the rear of the house.

The Bridge, Shankill

■ Only just within the cap for urban areas, you can get a three-bedroom apartment in south Dublin for €320,000.

■ Described by the estate agent as “bright and spacious” with two balconies, the apartment is also said to have a location that is “second to none”.

■ It is within a five-minute drive to seaside villages Dalkey and Killiney and has a host of schools to choose from in the local area.

Marlmount Green, Dundalk

■ While Louth is not categorised as in the larger urban cap market value, Dundalk is a sizeable town and being in the commuter belt means there are slightly fewer options than other areas of the country.

■ This semi-detached property has four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

■ The property is within 4.6km of Dundalk town and comes in at a cost that is €15,000 under the maximum market value allowed under the scheme.

Coldwell Street, Glasthule

■ This would suit, perhaps, if you’re in the market for something quirky and a lot smaller than other options.

■ The 322-square-feet cottage is in salubrious Glasthule, has a pot-belly stove, and is close to the sea.

■ “Built in circa 1890, this cottage is situated in a highly desirable street in Glasthule,” the description reads, aiming at those in the market for a “special property”.

Boireann Bheag, Roscam

■ It’s a bit of a journey – around 6.5km outside of Galway city centre – but given Galway’s urban status, the Government cap again rises to €320,000, with this property on the market for €305,000.

■ The house – which has four bedrooms and three bathrooms – is close to shops, a pharmacy, a crèche and a doctor. The property is also described as being “stunningly presented” and having a sunny rear garden.

Soho Terrace, Shanakiel

■ The property, which is located around 3km outside of Cork city centre, is described as a five-bedroom house in one of the county’s most popular residential areas.

■ It also has panoramic views over Cork city itself to the south of the house from its raised decking area.

■ The detached house is 1,722 square feet in floor size and includes two bathrooms.

The Birches, Briarfield, Castletroy

■ Despite being a city, Limerick is not featured in the upper €320,000 bracket and properties must cost no more than €250,000.

■ This house, a six-bedroom semi-detached home with four en-suites, is €35,000 under that asking price and is located around 7.5km from Limerick city.

■ It’s within walking distance of Castletroy Shopping Centre and is a short way away from the University of Limerick.
