DJ gets one over on Davy

-

A STORMING last quarter saw DJ Carey’s IT Carlow come from behind to defeat Davy Fitzgerald’s Limerick IT in this absorbing Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-final at the IT Carlow grounds last night.

The visitors were on top in the opening half with Clare’s Peter Duggan causing problems for the home defence.

Duggan hit three first-half points from play while Diarmuid Byrnes raised three white flags from long-range shots as LIT led 0-10 to 0-5 after 26 minutes. But on 27 minutes Carlow put together a superb move and Sean Downey finished to the Limerick net.

By half-time LIT led by the minimum, 0-11 to 1-7, which didn’t reflect their superiority.

With the sides deadlocked at 1-13 to 0-16 on 49 minutes, Carey’s side led for the first time when Charles Dwyer pointed from play.

They then went three points clear with scores from Marty Kavanagh and Mark Russell.

Points from Duggan and David Reidy reduced the gap but Carlow finished with scores from Cathal Dunbar, Enda Rowland and Dwyer.
