NOVEMBER 2015 saw the arrival of a new housing development called Royal Canal Park, situated between Ashtown and Cabra. All 154 homes built on the site have since been sold so the developer, Ballymore, has moved onto a new section called Camden Royal Canal Park,
The marketing material for Camden, which will comprise 71 homes, lends the scheme a more cosmopolitan vibe than its predecessor. The 22 three and four-bed terraced and endof-terrace homes in the first phase of Camden, which is launching this weekend, have the same layouts and sizes as the original Royal Canal Park but come with new, ultra-modern exterior finishes.
The scheme is aimed at first-time buyers and young families searching for homes with easy access to the city centre. While the scenic route to the canal-side development is through the Phoenix Park, Castleknock and a charming quasi-rural road via Ashtown, there is a train and Luas service nearby that serves the city centre directly. Residents can also walk or cycle the canal towpath to the city.
All the timber-framed houses at Camden, designed by O’Mahony Pike Architects, have higher-than-standard ceiling heights to the ground floor, high-performance hardwood windows, and double-glazed patio doors leading to a rear garden. The cheapest style in the first phase is the Ash, a three-bed with 1,234 sq ft of accommodation and a starting price-tag of €385,000.
The facade of the two-storey house type is finished in a combination of Buff brick and self-coloured render blockwork, with concrete roof tiles, and a recessed pale-green front door with side glazing. Inside, a set of doors connects the front living room to the extended kitchen/diner.
