Galwegians face Nenagh test

GALWEGIANS will continue their fight for survival in the Ulster Bank League Division 2A when they clash with Nenagh Ormond at Crowley Park this evening.

The Glenina outfit have lost eight of their 12 games in the third tier this season, and are bottom of the standings behind Corinthians.

This weekend Galwegians play their game in hand where they can move ahead of their Galway rivals, who they trail by three points.

Galwegians narrowed the gap at the bottom last weekend when they claimed a brilliant 27-17 victory over Greystones. Corinthians’ 44-10 hammering at Cashel means they are in big trouble.

Buccaneers have also struggled in Division 1A this season and they are currently bottom, seven points adrift of Dublin University.

Buccaneers were on course for their third win of the season when they held a 20-3 lead against Terenure College at half-time in Dubarry Park last time out.

Evan Galvin and Darragh Corbett scored tries in the first half for the Athlone side, while Luke Carty kicked the rest of their points. But James O’Donoghue, Robbie Smyth and Robert Duke all touched down for Terenure after the interval. They face second-from-bottom Trinity next week.

Sligo have fallen off of the top in Division 2C after they commanded first place for most of the season. They lost 35-18 against Midleton at Towns Park in Round 13, and fell to third in the standings.

Sligo had seven wins from their previous 12 outings but they need to keep up the pressure to get back on top in their bid for promotion. They are just three points behind leaders Malahide.

Sligo are at home to lowly Bective Rangers at Hamilton Park on February 17.
