SCHOOLS RUGBY

LIMERICK’S Glenstal Abbey marched into the semi-finals of the Munster Schools Senior Cup thanks to a 26-7 win over Bandon Grammar at the Mardyke yesterday.

Glenstal hit the front when winger Ronan Quinn crossed for the opening try after 27 minutes, which was brilliantly converted by Ben Healy.

Just before half-time a pivotal play saw them double their lead – Healy’s cross-kick allowed winger Andrew Hogan to win the ball well in the air and he scored the second try, Healy making it 14-0.

A third Glenstal try arrived early in the second half from centre Harry Benner, before Bandon struck back through replacement Tom Beare.

Quinn scored his second and Glenstal’s fourth try at the death.

The transformation was complete when her UCD clubmate Lena Tice converted a second half penalty stroke.

The sides resume the series tomorrow with the concluding fixture due to be played on Sunday.
