DISCOUNT retailer Lidl is to make its single biggest oneyear investment in Ireland since entering the market in 2000, with a total of €200m earmarked for a range of projects over the coming months.
It is investing in both its store network and the building of a new distribution centre.

A HIDDEN report for Britain’s most senior ministers has revealed that the promise of a UK shale gas boom has been dramatically exaggerated by government and fracking companies.
Government has known for almost two years that the number of wells likely to flow shale gas from fractures deep beneath the earth will be just a fraction of the 4,000 wells quoted publicly by ministers in support of the divisive industry.

ZHONG Ze Culture Investment Holdings, a subsidiary of the state-owned Chinese aerospace, defence and electronics company AVIC, is in advanced talks to buy Goodbody Stockbrokers.
Talks on the sale of Ireland’s second-largest stockbrokers are at an advanced stage, and a deal could be finalised within three to four weeks.

CENTRAL Bank governor Philip Lane’s chances of landing a top European Central Bank (ECB) job have been boosted in recent days, according to Irish EU sources.
Mr Lane was nominated for the role of ECB vice-president by Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe last month, and is up against Spain’s economy minister Luis de Guindos.
