DISCOUNT retailer Lidl is to make its single biggest oneyear investment in Ireland since entering the market in 2000, with a total of €200m earmarked for a range of projects over the coming months.

It is investing in both its store network and the building of a new distributi­on centre.

A HIDDEN report for Britain’s most senior ministers has revealed that the promise of a UK shale gas boom has been dramatical­ly exaggerate­d by government and fracking companies.

Government has known for almost two years that the number of wells likely to flow shale gas from fractures deep beneath the earth will be just a fraction of the 4,000 wells quoted publicly by ministers in support of the divisive industry.

ZHONG Ze Culture Investment Holdings, a subsidiary of the state-owned Chinese aerospace, defence and electronic­s company AVIC, is in advanced talks to buy Goodbody Stockbroke­rs.

Talks on the sale of Ireland’s second-largest stockbroke­rs are at an advanced stage, and a deal could be finalised within three to four weeks.

CENTRAL Bank governor Philip Lane’s chances of landing a top European Central Bank (ECB) job have been boosted in recent days, according to Irish EU sources.

Mr Lane was nominated for the role of ECB vice-president by Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe last month, and is up against Spain’s economy minister Luis de Guindos.
