Stylish three and four-bed homes available as new phase of Lucan development launches today

IRISH-BORN polar explorer Ernest Shackleton may be the most famous scion of the Shackleton family but his photographer cousin Jane was also well-known in her day, as an avid chronicler of the lives of both the rich and the poor in Victorian Irish society. Jane was raised in Anna Liffey House, an opulent Georgian pile with a mill on the River Liffey in Lucan, where Shackleton Park, a development at the edge of the west Co Dublin suburb named after the Anglo-Irish family, is being built.
Lucan has transformed since the Shackletons’ time, when it was a spa town and a popular holiday and weekend destination for city dwellers. The village has witnessed a resurgence in residential construction in the post-recession era.
Shackleton Park, which will comprise an estimated 1,100 apartments and three, four, and five-bed houses when it’s finished, is being built by Cairn Plc, the listed construction firm headed up by Michael Stanley.
The houses are being constructed in a crescent shape around what will eventually be a scheme of apartments called Shackleton Hall, where units will be available in later releases. Planning permission has also been sought for a 50-ac public park beside the scheme and construction is due to start towards the end of 2018.
Some 100 homes were sold at Shackleton Park after the development was launched off the plans in May and after another release followed in October. But showhouses will open today for the very first time to market a new release of 30 three and four-bed properties at the scheme. The tranche consists of three-bed houses from the B type, which spans 1,210 sq ft and costs from €335,000, and three-storey four-beds from the A design, which measures 1,776 sq ft — priced from €365,000.
Both designs are available as terraced, end-ofterrace, or semi-detached styles, while the B house type has been fitted with roof trusses to facilitate an attic conversion at a later stage.
The design and internal layouts of the properties at Shackleton Park resemble those at Churchfields in Ashbourne and Parkside on the Malahide Road, two other Cairn Homes developments.
The brick-fronted homes have a recessed porch and Portuguese limestone to the sills and surrounds of the UPVC double-glazed, whiteframed windows. To the rear, large glazed patio doors lead to a paved patio and a garden.
Internally, there are extra-high ceilings to the ground floor, recessed LED downlights in the hallway, tiling to the kitchen and hallway, as well as USB charging points and contemporary-style grooved architrave and skirting throughout.
The fitted kitchen is also contemporary by design, while the main bathroom, downstairs WC and master ensuite have tiling to the floor and wet areas.
The houses have an A3 BER, courtesy of features such as PV panels on the roof that generate additional electricity, a demand control ventilation system, and an A-rated condensing boiler unit with zoned heating controls.
Shackleton Park is a five-minute drive away from Lucan village and 10 minutes from Liffey Valley Shopping Centre. The N4, M50 and N7 are all accessible in under 10 minutes, while the train journey from nearby Adamstown to Heuston Station takes 22 minutes.
The showhouses, which were fitted out by Optimise Design and Elaine McKenzie-Smith, will be on view from 12pm to 2pm today and from 2.30pm to 4pm tomorrow and Sunday.
