Toulon in try-scoring form once again

- Declan Rooney

MUNSTER’S Champions Cup quarter-final opponents, Toulon, were in top form last weekend as they claimed a 36-12 victory over Bordeaux Begles in the Top 14.

This result was decided long before half-time despite the sending off of Josua Tuisova after 33 minutes. Four tries in the first 31 minutes meant Toulon were in total control as a poor Bordeaux outfit struggled.

Semi Radradra got Toulon up and running after five minutes before Chris Ashton scored three minutes later. Raphael Lakafia added try number three, and Tuisova scored the fourth two minutes before he was sent off in the 33rd minute.

There was a reply from Bordeaux as Blair Connor scored five minutes from the break, but even then Toulon were rampant as Juandre Kruger and Radradra scored either side of half-time.

The win means Toulon sit in fifth position, just eight points behind league leaders Montpellier in a competitive division.

There is another round of Top 14 action this weekend and Toulon make the trip to face Agen.

Agen are currently second bottom in the standings but with five wins from their last six league games at home they will pose a serious test for the threetime Champions Cup winners.

Should Munster beat Toulon in the quarter-finals they will face Clermont or Racing 92 in the last four, and this weekend Clermont are away to Lyon, while Racing host La Rochelle.
