Garryowen chase another win

- Daragh Small

GARRYOWEN will look to continue their brilliant recent form and stay in contention in Division 1A when they travel to UCD tomorrow.

It’s a difficult game for the Limerick outfit, but they are fresh off the hammering of Trinity last weekend in Dooradoyle.

Munster centre David Johnston touched down twice in a resounding 52-20 victory in the re-fixed game. Liam Coombes, James McInerney, Darren Ryan, Neil Cronin and Robert Meyer were also among the tries as Garryowen moved fourth.

The big Munster derby this week takes place in Tom Clifford Park where Young Munster host Cork Con with both sides still in contention at the right end of the table.

Cork Con are 11 points adrift of leaders Lansdowne but they are second in the standings, while Young Munster are sixth and a win would put them right back into the mix.

Shannon are just two points behind Ballynahinch, and second in Division 1B, before they host UL Bohemians in a big Limerick derby at Thomond Park tomorrow.

UL Bohs sit eighth in the table after their points deduction, and they need a win to stave off relegation fears. Elsewhere in 1B, UCC go to Old Wesley and Dolphin are away to Old Belvedere.

In Division 2A, second-placed Highfield will look to keep the pressure on leaders Malone when they travel to Corinthians. Nenagh Ormond are at home to City of Armagh. Cashel are away to Greystones.

In 2B, Old Crescent are at home to City of Derry, Sunday’s Well host Skerries. In the bottom tier, Bruff go to Seapoint, while Midleton and Thomond clash at Liam Fitzgerald Park.
