CBC ease way into Munchin’s final

-

ST MUNCHIN’S will face Christian Brothers College in this year’s Munster Schools Junior Cup final.

A spirited Bandon Grammar School kept CBC scoreless for the first half at Temple Hill yesterday before succumbing 15-0 while St Munchin’s scored four tries on their way to a 26-20 win over PBC at UL.

CBC’s Ronan O’Sullivan was held up at the line while winger Ben McGarry also had his chance to score before the break. The pair combined in the second half to give CBC the lead with O’Sullivan burrowing a hole in the Bandon defence and McGarry finished in the corner.

The city side took advantage of a Bandon sin-binning, with George Coomber crossing for a second try and sub Jason Ahern burrowed over late on to end Bandon’s hopes.

On UL’s 4G pitch, Kean Buckley’s try after eight minutes got the ball rolling for Munchin’s, with Darragh Long adding the extras. PBC were soon back in the game when Ben Comiskey went over and Darragh French kicked the Cork side level.

Conor O’Shaughnessy was first to react to Alexander Wood’s kickthrough to score the Limerick side’s second try. Long kicked them into a 14-7 lead before French combined with Daniel Squires to keep PBC in the hunt.

Four minutes into the second half, however, Long put Liam Neilan over in the right corner for their third try. Again, Long nailed the extras. A Squires penalty gave PBC some hope, but Josh Egan went in for a fourth St Munchin’s try, with Ronan Wilson scoring a late consolation try for PBC.
