A sense of security

Thanks to its focus on innovation and listening to customers, there is a lot more to HomeSecure.ie than simply warning homeowners of a break-in

HomeSecure.ie is the second-largest home monitored alarm provider in Ireland, operating in over 11,000 homes. Started three and a half years ago in Dublin, the company has gone nationwide in the past 18 months, employing 30 in-house agents, 30 contracted sales people and 14 installers.

While a significant part of the business comes from high density areas around the M50 in Dublin, demand is growing in country towns and rural locations.

Founder and CEO Colm Daly saw an opportunity when Eircom sold off its PhoneWatch division in 2013. Using contacts and experience gained at a sales agency linked to Eircom, he moved quickly to engage Eircom installers; then brought security company Chubb on board to monitor the alarms and complete diagnostics every evening. HomeSecure.ie was born.

Constantly evaluating how to work with customers to best protect them, HomeSecure.ie goes beyond the standard service of warning of an intrusion. For example, customers with elderly parents can rely on HomeSecure.ie to explain why the parents’ alarm was triggered, ie, was it a mistake or an emergency? Indeed, the alarms have proven useful in dramatic situations, with customers triggering the alarm when they needed a doctor or there was a fire.

The offer of an alarm monitoring package pitched at a lower cost than key competitors has worked well. The service is reliable: the alarms provide monitoring via both 3G and WiFi and are app-enabled, so can be controlled by the customer no matter where they are. The alarm works even if the SIM signal is blocked. Customers signing up to the contract are attracted by the modern technology that is, as Daly says, “fully future-proofed”.

Daly and his team continue to look ahead to integrate cutting-edge technology into the existing alarm package and to persuade customers to avail of more innovative features.

He sees HomeSecure.ie as a disrupter in the marketplace. “Our app will give the customer control,” he says. “At present 5,500 alarms are fully smart-enabled to integrate fully into customers’ lifestyles, not only to protect but also to enhance creature comforts.”

Examples of this are the ability to use the geo-fenced alarm to put on heating and lights as you approach home; set your back door to chime if there’s an unexpected visitor; and use a live feed video doorbell via your smart phone to see and communicate with a person at your door, as if you were at home.
