CAB raids home as part of crackdown on Kinahan cartel

A CAR, a van, phones and expensive watches were seized in a raid on a house by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) as part of the continuing crackdown on the Kinahan cartel.

The Irish Independent can reveal that the morning swoop was at least the third time armed gardaí have been involved in searching the same south inner city property since the capital’s deadly mob feud began.

In a previous raid last year, Kevin Street gardaí found €30,000 in cash hidden in a cooker.

Gardaí have been targeting a 33-year-old criminal connected to the property, who previously acted as a driver for convicted drugs trafficker Greg Lynch. Detectives have also been investigating his taxi driver father.

The criminal was a registered director of a motor company and children’s entertainment company but is no longer involved with those businesses.

His father was not previously well-known to gardaí but has been investigated in recent months because of his son’s criminal activity.

Details of the latest raid were revealed yesterday.

“CAB, assisted by local gardaí and the Garda Armed Support Unit, conducted a search in the Dublin 8 area,” a garda spokesman said.

“The search relates to a target believed to be connected with suspected members of an organised crime gang involved in the drugs trade.

“One search of a residence was conducted in the Marrowbone Lane area of Dublin 8.

“A 2011 Audi A4 S Line and a 2015 Citroen Berlingo van have been seized as evidence.

“No arrests were made. The CAB investigation into a South Dublin-based organised crime gang is continuing.”

In a separate operation, CAB targeted the leader of an organised crime network involved in major burglaries, car thefts and crimes against elderly people in a raid at a hotel in Co Wicklow.

Officers seized €6,000 in euro and €5,200 in sterling in the search, however they did not arrest the criminal, who is aged in his 50s.
