Third phase may lure in first timers

FIRST-TIME buyers have dominated the 94 sales that have taken place at St Helens since the Adamstown development was launched last summer to target purchasers priced out of locations closer to Dublin city centre.

The scheme, which is being developed by Castlethorn Construction and was designed by DDA Architects, will have 135 homes when it is eventually finished, and will be bounded by two parks. A third phase, consisting of 24 three and fourbed houses, is being released this weekend, with prices ranging from €297,500 to €365,000.

Each house comes with a cobblelock driveway to the front and a seeded garden to the rear. Behind the red brick and render exteriors, there are fitted wardrobes to each bedroom, a pull-down ladder to access the attic, and a master bedroom with an ensuite fitted with contemporary sanitary ware and wet-room style shower trays.

Integrated appliances in the fully -fitted kitchen will be included by the developer if contracts are signed within 28 days. PV panels on the roof generate power during daylight hours and a mechanical extract ventilation system extracts moisture from the bathrooms, kitchen, utility room and ensuites and delivers a constant supply of fresh air.

Adamstown is the first planned town in Ireland since Shannon was built in the 1960s, having been designated as a strategic development zone back in 2003 to enable developers to secure fast-track planning to build homes in tandem with the creation of infrastructure such as community facilities and a rail station. Progress was put on ice during the recession but a sports hall and community centre is due to open in Adamstown in the coming months.
