A choice of identities in D4
SOURCES differ as to whether Herbert Green in Dublin 4 is in Sandymount or in Ballsbridge, so there’s nothing to stop you deciding for yourself which you want to be.
Do you identify as a bookish, dogwalking type who keeps up with food fads? Sandymount. Or are you more of a rugby-following stockbroker type with an upturned collar? Ballsbridge then.
If you suspect you might be a little of both, then you can change your address depending on how you’re feeling and who you’re talking to.
Geographically, Herbert Green is just off Serpentine Avenue, at the entrance to Oaklands Park and Oaklands Drive, which the Ordnance Survey will tell you is in Ballsbridge. An Post merely insists on Dublin 4, without elaborating. And if you’re buying or selling 3 Herbert Green, your estate agent will bill it as Sandymount.
Number 3 is a terraced townhouse less than half a kilometre from Sandymount DART station, and note it’s on the Sandymount side of the tracks. It’s about seven minutes’ walk from the Sandymount Green and a kilometre from the Strand.
It’s 1,076 sq ft on two-and-a-half floors and has off-street parking out the front and a tidy paved garden out the back, facing due west.
You reach the garden from a long
(27ft) ground-floor living and dining room, where there’s a wood-burning stove and an open-tread stairs to the first floor.
The kitchen is at the front here and is about 9ft square.
The first floor has the main bathroom and the two bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower. Above that is a converted attic with three skylights, which has been comfortably and tastefully fitted out as a lofty office or reading room.
