AFTER Cappaghmore House near Clondalkin Village was built at the turn of the 19th century between the canal and the railway line, it became home to several generations of the Whitton farming family. Now its grounds are home to a new gated residential development called Whitton Avenue, named in honour of the first occupants.

The former estate’s tree-lined avenue forms the entrance to the development. The scheme of nine four-bed homes is aimed at trader-uppers in Dublin 22, where there is a dearth of four-bed houses, the selling agent says.

Whitton Avenue is made up of eight semi-detached homes and one detached property. Each has about 1,506 sq ft of living space, a south-facing rear garden, and a starting price of €369,950.

Inside, the homes have a 500-sq ft master bedroom with an ensuite and walk-in wardrobes, as well as an ensuite to a guest bedroom. The A2-rated houses are equipped with an air-towater heating system, so cost less than €500 a year to heat. Whitton Avenue is close to Corkagh Park, which, at 290 acres, is one of the largest in Dublin. The closest Luas stop is the Red Cow station, but the area is also serviced by the 13, 68 and 69 bus routes and is close to the N7 and M50.
