UK airlines’ access to America is up in the air
The UK will get a worse “Open Skies” deal with the US post-Brexit than it has now, in what could be a blow to Virgin Atlantic, pictured, and the IAG-owned British Airways.
The ‘Financial Times’ reported that British and US negotiators met in January for talks on a new air services deal, and the Americans offered conditions that would reduce access to British-headquartered airlines. A UK official was quoted as saying it showed “the squeeze” facing London in trying to replicate the value of current international agreements after Brexit.
