Man (25) suffers horrific injuries in shooting
A 25-year-old man suffered horrific injuries in a shooting in Dublin’s north inner city last night.
The man was treated for injuries to his buttocks after the gun attack on Sheriff Street just after 10.30pm last night.
Emergency services and a number of Garda cars rushed to the scene of the shooting and the man was taken to hospital at around 11.15pm.
The victim, who is originally from the area and lives close to the scene of the incident, was struck at least once.
Sources described the man’s injuries as non-life-threatening and gardaí from Store Street are investigating.
Uniformed gardaí as well as members of the Armed Support Unit (ASU) responded and initially treated the injured man at the scene.
The victim had been previously arrested by gardaí investigating alleged on-street drug dealing in the north inner city as part of Operation Tempest in August 2014.
Sources described the man as a “low-level” criminal.
Fire officers, ambulance personnel and around more than half a dozen squad cars were at the scene of the shooting last night.
A large Garda cordon extended the length of Sheriff Street Lower with a large Garda presence at either end.
Independent councillor for the area, Christy Burke, said the spate of shootings was terrorising the area.
Mr Burke said that a life could have been lost in yet another shooting in the north-inner city.
“This has to stop. Really and truly, it’s only causing more and more misery,” Cllr Burke said.
“I’m appealing to everyone for it to stop and to let these communities get on with what they do best.
“All this is doing is causing fear and insecurity to the community,” Cllr Burke added.
