Tough line on Brexit may backfire
■ I can’t help but contemplate the possible repercussions of the unspeakable – a somewhat successful Brexit.
Let’s not kid ourselves here, expectations may be low both sides of the English Channel surrounding the circumstances of the secession.
However, dare I mention it, London is still widely considered the financial capital of the world and the prospect of an independent Scotland (or Irish unification, for that matter) perished alongside Mrs May’s majority.
If Brussels is banking on a tough approach with the British in an attempt to curtail Eurosceptic sentiment, it’s difficult not to consider a situation where this approach spectacularly backfires if the eurocrats grossly underestimate Britain’s fortunes post-Brexit.
