What Is Active Citizenship?

When President Obama left the White House this year, he set up a Foundation, one which focuses on developing the next generation of citizens – and what it means to be a good citizen in the 21st century.

“In dreams begin responsibility. And embracing that responsibility, working toward it, overcoming the cynics and the naysayers and those who say “you can’t that’s what makes dreams real.

“That is something we can point to and show our children…. That is something we can teach them as they grow up together in a new century side by side, as it has been since our beginnings”

One of the main aims of the Thomas F Meagher Foundation is to promote active citizenship in schoolchildren. By supplying lapel pins to schools free of charge we are giving them the chance to sell these pins for a charity or project of their choosing.

Community can be many things, your family, and your neighbour of your school. This community involvement is more important than ever in a society that is becoming more inwardly focused. Groups throughout the world are seeing the benefit and the need to promote Active Citizenship.
