Child sexual abuse case was referred to State body

- David Raleigh

TEN adults arrested as part of an investigation into alleged sex offences against children in Munster remain in custody.

One man was released without charge last night.

The case is understood to have involved the State child and family protection agency Túsla.

The agency said it does not comment on individual cases.

“All referrals are screened and assessed in line with ‘Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children’,” it said in a statement.

The six women and five men were arrested on Monday as part of the investigation in the Munster area. Those arrested are aged from their 20s to their 70s and were questioned at several garda stations in Limerick, Cork, and Clare.

Gardaí will prepare a file for the DPP in relation to the man who was released without charge.

An official garda statement issued on Monday read: “Gardaí from Newcastle West, Bruff, Henry Street, Mayorstone Park and Roxboro Road in conjunction with the Limerick Divisional Protective Services Unit have arrested 11 adults.”
