Three hurt in crash between double-decker bus and van

- Conor Feehan

THREE people were injured in a dramatic crash that saw a double-decker bus and a van collide at a busy city junction.

The driver of the bus, as well as the driver and passenger of the van, were taken to hospital but were reported to be not seriously hurt.

The crash happened at the junction of Shaw Street and Townsend Street in Dublin just after 7am yesterday, a time when many office workers are walking into the city.

After the initial collision with the van, the bus smashed into a vacant office on the corner of the two streets, causing damage to its windows and an overhanging section of the first floor.

“Three people were taken to hospital with minor injuries, the driver of the bus and the two occupants of the van,” said a Dublin Bus spokesman.

Investigation

“Dublin Bus is co-operating fully with An Garda Síochána, and has commenced an internal investigation as per our safety management protocol,” he added.

The vehicle was about to go into service on the 67 route when the incident happened.

The front of the bus was destroyed in the impacts with the van and then the building. The van was also badly damaged on the driver’s side.
