Children’s hospital to choose new name amid legal threat
THE new national children’s hospital will not be named Phoenix Children’s Health after all, Simon Harris has said.
The decision to change tack comes on foot of a threat of legal action from a US hospital with the same name. Representatives from Arizona’s Phoenix Children’s Hospital wrote to the Health Minister in December and said they would “pursue all available legal remedies” if the name was used.
However, in a letter to Dublin City Council, Mr Harris said his department was liaising with the Children’s Hospital Group in order to come up with a new naming process.
The response comes on the back of a motion put forward by Councillor Nial Ring, who had called for the new hospital to be named after Dr Kathleen Lynn.
