Connacht could move for Copeland after Munster departure confirmed

-

CONNACHT could look to sign Robin Copeland after the 30-yearold back-row’s exit from Munster was confirmed yesterday.

The Wexford native, who won one cap for Ireland in 2014, moved to Thomond Park from Cardiff Blues in 2013 but has struggled to nail down a regular place in the team.

However, the western province are on the lookout for a No 8 with John Muldoon retiring at the end of the season and Copeland (right) could fit the bill.

Connacht have been shopping overseas for a No 8, but Copeland offers an Irishqualified option.

“While it has been great to retain so many of our players this season, we respect Robin’s decision to move on,” Johann van Graan said. “A physical and versatile player, we know he will continue to be successful, and everyone at Munster wishes Robin all the best for the future.” The province are also interested in signing Brumbies and Australia back Kyle Godwin who can play at outhalf or centre. Munster yesterday announced that Dave O’Callaghan, Brian Scott and Ciarán Parker have signed new contracts.
