A day to celebrate and remember women’s inalienable rights
■ International Women’s Day is another opportunity to celebrate the achievements made by women and for women in their quest to achieve their inalienable human rights, equalities and liberties.
It is part of the struggle to deliver liberty from all forms of poverty, injustice, maternal mortality, domestic violence, sexual abuse, gender stereotyping, discrimination, human trafficking, early or forced marriages, female genital mutilation and noncommunicable diseases and unequal access to health and social care services.
We have all heard about how women in conflict zones are being sexually exploited in exchange for aid.
Therefore it is high time to renew our unflinching resolve and commitment to advance women’s equality and empowerment as an economic and social imperative if we truly care about peace, security and sustainable development. Dr Munjed Farid Al Qutob London, United Kingdom
