I’ ll be praying for peace

-

■ It was gratifying to read Martina Devlin’s article (‘Brexiteers don’t care for their own people, never mind the Irish and Good Friday Agreement’, Irish Independent on Saturday, February 24) about the vital importance of protecting the Good Friday Agreement in the Brexit negotiations.

Her own experience of living through civil war in the North and the peace since the agreement means so much to her and all of us, north and south.

She points out that the agreement is composed of two interlocking documents, an international fact held in the UN and signed by the sovereign governments of Ireland and Great Britain and a multi-party agreement reached by most of the North’s political parties.

I hope and pray the Good Friday Agreement will give all of the people of this island a chance to live together with peace and justice.

It is the best chance we ever got and no vested interest as political gain should be allowed to harm it. Phil Healy
