HIGH above the upmarket town of Kinsale and its harbour sits Convent Garden, a scheme being built on the grounds of a former Mercy convent on Winter’s Hill.

Cumnor Construction is developing Convent Garden on a site once home to St Joseph’s Convent, founded right before the Famine to educate and feed local children.

It later fell into dereliction and, in the early

2000s, Cumnor was granted permission to convert the austere, grey buildings into apartments and to build houses on its grounds. The project stalled during the crash, but building work resumed back in 2015.

There are now two units left from the last phase of Convent Garden, known as Harvest Walk. One of the remaining properties costs from €585,000, while the other is more expensive at €595,000, because it is situated at the end of a row of homes and has a larger garden.

Each of the four-bed detached homes has

2,067 sq ft of accommodation arranged across three floors. The star attraction is a balcony off the rear living area on the first floor: it overlooks the back garden and paved patio.

The ground floor is home to the kitchen and another living room that looks out on to the front garden. The A3-rated homes are just a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Kinsale.
