Party leader Micheál Martin may favour repealing the Eighth Amendment and the provision to allow unrestricted abortion up to 12 weeks, but in taking this stance he’s at odds with the majority of his TDs.
Just 10 favour repeal, 32 are against and three are undeclared. Willie O’Dea and Dara Calleary are among those who are against changing the Constitution.
Thirty-four Fianna Fáil TDs oppose 12 weeks with just eight in favour and three undeclared.
Abortion committee members Billy Kelleher and Lisa Chambers are in favour but Anne Rabbitte and James Browne, who sat through evidence, are opposed.
Fianna Fáil also has a free vote on abortion. Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl will not declare a position due to his role in the Dáil.
