Curious pair of penguins take a selfie video in Antarctica

- Mark Molloy London

TWO curious Emperor penguins inadvertently captured a selfie video when they stumbled across an explorer’s camera in Antarctica.

The black and white flightless birds were filmed closely inspecting the equipment after stumbling over a camera at a rookery near Australia’s Mawson research station on the icecovered continent.

Australian Antarctic expeditioner Eddie Gault left his camera on the ice when visiting the rookery and the penguins took the opportunity to check out their reflections.

“It didn’t take long for the naturally curious birds to seize the opportunity for a selfie,” said the Australian Antarctic Division.

The Auster Rookery is home to thousands of breeding penguins, and is one of around 40 such colonies on the continent.
