Morrissey strike steals spoils

SUBSTITUTE Danny Morrissey scored the all-important goal to get Limerick back to winning ways as Bray Wanderers suffered their third defeat of the season.

The 30th meeting between the sides in all competitions was not the most memorable, with little to excite the 948 spectators.

Standout moments in the opening half were few and far between. Equally so were the amount of shots on target.

Anthony Buttimer correctly disallowed a Limerick goal after Aaron Dillon was bundled on to the ground and over the line on 12 minutes.

Full-back Daniel McKenna had a goal-line clearance soon after to deny Daniel Kearns.

Will Fitzgerald impressed on the other wing for the Blues and was their target with several cross-field passes, and one such example almost bore fruit on 30 minutes but he took one touch too many.

Another cross-field pass resulted in the winner as Shane Tracy picked out Morrissey with 10 minutes remaining and he headed the ball into the bottom left corner of Dillon’s net to give Tommy Barrett’s charges their second win of the campaign.

Bray stay rooted to the bottom of the table and will look to get their first win of the season when they host Sligo Rovers on Monday. Limerick move up to fifth ahead of their trip to Derry.
