Imelda May to rock the Olympia for the homeless
IMELDA May is among the headliners taking part in the third Rock Against Homelessness gig at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre this May.
The Dublin singer and TV presenter will join some of the biggest names in the Irish and international music scene who have volunteered their time to raise vital funds in aid of homeless charity Focus Ireland.
The charity gig on May 13 is in response to the deepening homelessness crisis in Ireland and is sponsored by Independent News and Media.
Included in the lineup so far are Dermot Kennedy, Wyvern Lingo, Jack O’Rourke and the High Hopes Choir, along with more names to be announced.
“There are some big names but we can’t announce them yet,” said ‘Sunday Independent’ columnist Barry Egan, who is one of the event founders.
“The arts world has always responded in times of discrimination, poverty and injustice. Painters paint, poets write and musicians play,” he said. “On Sunday, May 13, our Irish musicians will join the choir, who began their journey from street to stage, and sing with them. They will be united in their message to end homelessness, stop cut-backs, and acknowledge the poorest in our society.”
He also praised RTÉ’s ‘Other Voices’ producer Aoife Woodlock for help in organising the gig.
“I literally couldn’t have done it without her. Nor could it have been done without the massive support of INM’s Editor-in-Chief Stephen Rae. He backs ideas,” he said.
Tickets are €35 plus booking fees, and are on sale at Ticketmaster locations nationwide.
