Lille supporters leave Hammers in the shade for riotous behaviour

-

THE Stade Pierre-Mauory is best known to Irish fans as the venue at which Robbie Brady’s winner against Italy nearly took the roof off at Euro 2016 but it was the scene of rancour on Saturday when Lille could only draw against Montpellier.

“If we go down, we’ll take you down,” sang the home support, pointing the blame for the team’s relegation fears firmly at the players.

On streamed scores of fans at the final whistle, many launching verbal broadsides but some resorting to physical attacks. Defender Adama Soumaoro was reportedly struck amid the melee.

It was a weekend when disgruntled fans of certain clubs across Europe foolishly took matters into their own hands.
